Lake Ann is a village in Benzie County of the US state of Michigan, located within Almira Township, 12 miles west of Traverse City. It had a population of 268 as of the 2010 census.
The United States Census Bureau reported that the village has a total area of 0.48 square miles, of which 0.45 square miles is land and 0.03 square miles is water. Platte River flows through Lake Ann, emptying into Platte Bay of Lake Michigan.
Lake Ann was named for Addison Partridge Wheelock’s wife, Ann (McBride) Wheelock. The Wheelock family was an early pioneering family of Lake Ann and Traverse City, Michigan.

Well Known Historical Landmarks
Lake Ann is a small village, but it does have one notable landmark in the form of the Loon Song Covered Bridge, also known as Joshua’s Crossing. This is the only covered bridge in Benzie County. It is 90 feet long, 14 feet wide, and has a load capacity of 150,000 lbs. The covered bridge is unique because it has fold-down benches that permit holding special events inside.
The Loon Song Covered Bridge crosses a 20-feet deep ravine and small spring-fed creek that runs into Herendeene Lake.
The name Joshua’s Crossing was taken from Joshua Gabrick, son of resort owner Mark Gabrick. In fact, the road that leads to the bridge is known as Tasha’s Trail and is named after Mark’s daughter.
The bridge was built in 1996 by Don and Drew Harvey, who were custom home builders who specialized in one-of-a-kind construction. It was originally built so that guests at the Sleeping Bear Resort, formerly known as Herendeene Lake Resort could access the back of the property.
